Queens, N.Y. -Phenology Was My Refuge, Life Thrives at Jamaica Bay Amidst a Pandemic that Stopped the World, an exhibit of photographs by Angela Carcione, will open on April 2. The exhibit opening and reception will be from 2 pm - 4 pm at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
This exhibit will be on exhibit for two months.
Carcione, who will be at the reception, visited the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge nearly every day during the pandemic to observe and document the wildlife in various seasons. Here photographic essay captures the solace and escape she found during these visits. The show includes 20 images of wildlife taken during the height of the pandemic.
Carcione grew up and lives in Howard Beach. Inspired by her childhood heroes Steven Irwin and Jane Goodall, she received degrees in Wildlife Conservation, Entomology, and Education. Carcione teaches middle school science for the New York City Department of Education and writes science-related children’s books.
