The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 7. It is reproduced in full below.

Mesa Verde, CO - The Mesa Top Loop Road within Mesa Verde National Park will be temporarily closed beginning April 10 and is expected to reopen before Memorial Day weekend. The Mesa Top Loop Road is a 6-mile drive with a series of short trails to excavated ancestral sites located on Chapin Mesa within Mesa Verde National Park. The Cliff Palace Loop Road will be open during this time, so visitors can enjoy views of Cliff Palace, Hemenway House, House of Many Windows, and other ancestral sites.

This temporary closure is needed to complete road construction work, including concrete and asphalt paving, pavement marking, and installation of signs. This project is part of a Federal Highways project to improve road conditions within the park.

For information on road construction or projects affecting park operations, please visit our website at www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/closures.htm. For current conditions, visit https://www.facebook.com/mesaverdenps.
