Connection - Walking Tour of Lackawanna River Heritage Trail

Join a Park Ranger on a 45-minute walk that will explore a 1.5-mile section of the trail and discuss changes in the landscape over the last 100 years.

Discovery - Tour of Mattes Street Tower

The railroad yard was a center of activities. Railroad towers ensured that trains were kept on the right tracks to their destination. Join a Park Ranger on a 1-hour, 1-mile walking tour to the Mattes Street Tower.

Accomplishment - Restoration of the Union Pacific No. 4012 "Big Boy"

Between October 2019 and May 2021, Steamtown’s “Big Boy" underwent cosmetic restoration. Join a Park Ranger and a Locomotive Shop employee at the "Big Boy" as they present on what it took to restore the locomotive and put it back on display.

Gratitude - Anthracite Railroads Historical Society's (ARHS) F3 No. 664

The ARHS manages the ABA set of F-unit diesel locomotives that sometimes lead Steamtown excursions. Join Rich Jahn of the ARHS for a program on historic preservation and the F3 No. 664.
