PINEDALE, Wyo. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office has approved a proposal submitted by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) to use a parcel of BLM managed lands for temporary worker housing while completing a highway project in Teton County, Wyoming. The parcel, known as “Parcel 26," is currently being used as a staging area for construction on Highway 189/191.
On Aug. 26, 2022, WYDOT applied for a 3-year Land Use Permit to provide temporary housing for workers replacing the Wyoming Highway 22 Jackson-Wilson bridge. Allowing WYDOT to temporarily use the western portion of Parcel 26 for housing will decrease construction costs and increase efficiency. WYDOT will coordinate with the BLM and Teton County, as appropriate, to implement recontouring and other site reclamation actions throughout construction and after the bridge is complete.
An environmental assessment (EA), pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act, was completed to evaluate the potential impact of this decision. The action was analyzed in EA DOI-BLM-WY-D010-2022-0057-EA. The public participated in the process by submitting comments in October and November of 2022.
