Wilson's Creek National Battlefield Hosts National Junior Ranger Day REPUBLIC, MO - Become a Junior Ranger April 22nd at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield as part of the celebration of National Junior Ranger day and National Park Week. Tour the battlefield, explore civilian and soldier life during the battle, and learn how to muster and drill like a soldier.

From 8 am to 5 pm visitors of all ages can complete Junior Ranger and Not So Junior Ranger activity booklets to earn their Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield badge. Staff and volunteers will bring to life the stories of ordinary people fighting to define freedom.

Programs will be occurring throughout the day including:

* Learning to muster and drill for 9-12 and 1-4 on the hour

* A Civil War Medicine Talk from 9-12 and 1-4 on the half hour

* Common Soldier Talk at the top of the hour from 9 am-4 pm

* Tours of the Ray House from 9 am - 4 pm

Stop in at the visitor center to get your books and for additional information about locations for programs. While you are there, enjoy a 28 minute film and the exhibit hall. For additional information or to request program accommodations please call the visitor center at (417) 732-2662 x227.

Entrance to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield and all programs are free.

About Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield: Administered by the National Park Service, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of the first major battle of the Civil War in the West. The Confederate victory on Aug. 10, 1861, focused greater national attention on the war in Missouri, leading to greater federal military action. Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, Missouri at the intersection of Highway ZZ and Farm Road 182.
