Bureau of Land Management recreation managers are delaying the seasonal opening of the Yellowbottom Campground, located about 20 miles outside of Sweet Home. BLM staff inspected the campground ahead of its scheduled spring opening and found several potential safety hazards.
“The safety of our visitors is a top priority,” said Dennis Teitzel, Northwest Oregon District Manager. “Our staff is working diligently to address these safety concerns. We need time to responsibly reduce risks to the public.”
The campground and day-use site will remain closed while BLM staff completes the work. The BLM will not be accepting any new reservations at the Yellowbottom Campground until the safety issues can be resolved. Existing reservations through the end of May will be canceled and refunded in the coming days. Depending on the extent of work necessary to make the campground safe, additional reservations may also need to be cancelled and refunded.
BLM officials regret cancelling reservations and understand that this work will cause disruptions for those planning to visit Yellowbottom Campground. Visitors with questions about their reservations may call the BLM Northwest Oregon District at 503-375-5646 or call the Recreation.gov call center at 1-877-444-6777.
