Save the date for the Fire and Ice Native American Art and Dance Gathering on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21, 2023, at El Malpais National Monument. This free event will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day at the El Malpais Visitor Center located at 1900 East Santa Fe Avenue in Grants, NM.

Native American artists from the surrounding area will share their pottery, jewelry, weaving, sculpture, and more at this two-day event. Learn how these artists achieve their craft, the meaning behind their creations, and how it connects with their culture. Many demonstrators will be selling their art, providing the opportunity to purchase directly from the artists. The Pueblo Dance Troupe consisting of dancers from several Pueblos will perform dances several times throughout the day.In the upcoming weeks, the park will share more about each of the artists showcasing their work at the gathering.

Participants include Pueblo Dance Group, painter Karl Bautista from Pueblo of Laguna, traditional dressmaker Jenner Leads from Pueblo of Laguna, flintknapper Edwin Lente from Pueblo of Isleta, Navajo weavers Beth and George Nez, potter Sharlyn Sanchez from Pueblo of Acoma, photographer Shannon Stevens from Pueblo of Laguna, jeweler Robert Torres San Carlos Apache/Yaqui, sculptor Walter Torres from Pueblo of Acoma, and Acoma/Navajo beader Evan Torres.
