Due to an electrical infrastructure malfunction at the Great Bridge facility, the lock is being operated on generator power. Beginning April 14, and until permanent repairs can be made, single lockings will only occur four times per day on a first come, first served basis.

The times of the lockings are:

8 a.m.

11 a.m.

 2 p.m. 

5 p.m.

Vessels drafting less than 6 feet are encouraged to utilize the Dismal Swamp Canal for transit. All attempts will be made to reduce the impacts to vessels transiting the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, however, minor delays should be anticipated.
