The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 21. It is reproduced in full below.

SPRINGFIELD, IL: All aboard! Lincoln Home National Historic Site is looking for volunteers interested in sharing Illinois history while riding Amtrak trains from Springfield to Chicago this summer. Interested volunteers can attend an open house on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Lincoln Home Conference Center at the corner of 8th Street and Capitol Avenue.

Visitors to this open house can meet Lincoln Home staff who manage the Trails and Rails program and learn about the program from current volunteers. Trails and Rails is a partnership between the National Park Service and Amtrak which brings the stories and history found in national parks to Amtrak rail customers. Lincoln Home National Historic Site's Trails and Rails program places volunteer interpreters on trains between Springfield and Chicago.

For more information about this open house, or other volunteer opportunities at Lincoln Home National Historic Site, contact Lincoln Home National Historic Site Community Volunteer Ambassador Karey Olson at 217-391-3225 or at karey_olson@nps.gov.
