James A. Garfield National Historic Site’s annual summer season begins Monday, May 1 and extends through Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023. The site’s hours for this summer season are as follows:
May 1-31: The Visitor Center and grounds-both self-guided-will be open seven days per week, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, guided tours of the Garfield home will begin at 12 p.m. and be scheduled throughout the day. The last tour of the day begins during the 3 p.m. hour. Please call ahead on the day of your visit for exact tour times, as they are different each day. On weekends and holidays in May, all services, including Garfield home guided tours, are available from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
June 1-October 31: Public hours, including Garfield home guided tours, are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., seven days per week. Guided home tours are scheduled throughout the day. The last tour of the day begins during the 3 p.m. hour. Please call ahead on the day of your visit for exact tour times, as they are different each day.
“As always, we’re excited for the summer season to start," said Acting Site Manager Allison Powell. “It’s our busiest time of the year for visitation and special events. This year, we have so many school groups who want to come in May that we are setting aside the first two hours of the day during the week that month just for them."
James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Avenue (U.S. 20) in Mentor, Ohio, approximately 25 miles east of Cleveland. The site offers guided tours of the Garfield home, museum exhibits, two outdoor cell phone tours, and an introductory film. The National Park Service completely restored the house in the late 1990s, making it one of the most impressive presidential homes preserved for the public.
