The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) has a permanent position open for a Maintenance Worker to work as part of a Maintenance Action Team for national wildlife refuges in eastern North Carolina. 

The  Great American Outdoors Act  gave spending authority to the National Wildlife Refuge System to hire maintenance professionals to reduce the maintenance backlog on national wildlife refuges. Maintenance Workers and Engineering Equipment Operators make up a significant portion of the FWS workforce. These currently advertised positions will work at national wildlife refuges to support infrastructure projects in North Carolina, the Southeast, and throughout the United States.

• Be part of a large, mobile workforce which tackles priority construction, demolition, and maintenance projects.
• Work as part of diverse teams alongside local refuge staff.
• Use a variety of light and heavy equipment ranging from skidsteers to large bulldozers and earthmovers. 
• Travel to a diverse set of projects including levee repair, HVAC or plumbing maintenance, facility demolition, culvert or water control  structure  replacement, and small building construction.
• Be provided with high quality training, and mentor other employees in skilled trades.
