The San Juan Islands National Monument Advisory Committee (MAC) will hold a meeting May 4, 2023. The meeting will be held virtually from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; the public is welcome to attend using the Zoom link.
A one-hour open forum will be held from Noon to 1:00 p.m. for anyone wishing to address the MAC. The amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited, depending on the number of people wishing to comment.
“The diverse perspectives and collaborative effort of the San Juan Islands Monument Advisory Committee have helped inform our decision making,” BLM Spokane District Manager Kurt Pindel said. “As we begin implementation of the recently approved Resource Management Plan, the Committee’s continued input will be invaluable.”
Planned agenda items for the May 4 meeting include updates on hiring and staffing, discussion of implementation priorities, general monument updates and other topics.

The MAC consists of 12 members that include two recreation and tourism representatives; two members representing wildlife and ecological interests; two members representing cultural and heritage interests; two members representing the public-at-large; a Tribal representative; a local government representative; an education and interpretation interests representative; and a private landowner representative. The Committee, which is formally chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, provides advice and recommendations to the BLM on the development and implementation of management plans in accordance with the presidential proclamation under which the committee was established.
