Photography. Writing. Painting. Weaving. The national parks have inspired creativity since the late 19th century. Catoctin Mountain Park is one of 50 national parks that host an artist in residence program. From May 8 – 12, 2023 the 32nd artist in residence, Jeffrey Lockwood from Laramie, Wyoming will be in the park. 

Lockwood has had a fascination with the life forms that are “disturbingly and enchantingly other” as an insect ecologist. He used that interest and career as a springboard into writing with his first book of essays “Grasshopper Dreaming: Reflections on Killing and Loving” published in 2002.

On Saturday, May 13 at the Thurmont Regional Library in Thurmont, Maryland he will present the first of two free public writing workshops. The first one titled “Spring Rains and Cinquains” will run from 1 - 2 p.m.

The second free writing workshop, titled “Minute Memoirs” will be held on Wednesday, May 17 from 7 – 8 p.m. at the Thurmont Regional Library.
