At the request of the Tulare County Sherriff’s Office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District today closed visitor access to the Cobble Knoll and Slick Rock Recreation Areas at Lake Kaweah. The closure is a public safety measure made necessary by current riverbank instability caused by increased Kaweah River flows following historic rainfall and melting snowpack.

The recreation areas will remain closed until conditions are deemed safe for public access.

USACE continues to coordinate all controlled water releases from Terminus Dam with state and local downstream agencies to reduce the impacts of potential future snowmelt runoff and precipitation.

Please contact the Lake Kaweah Project Office at (559) 597-2301 or the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 733-6218 for additional information.
