Shiloh National Military Park will offer two ranger led programs on Saturday, May 13, one at the Shiloh Battlefield and one at the Corinth Battlefield.
At Shiloh we will offer our next ranger led hike entitled “Johnston’s Last Fight."
Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston was the highest ranked officer killed during the Civil War. Join Ranger Timothy Arnold on a 2-hour hike discussing the fighting that took place around the area where General Johnston was killed during the Battle of Shiloh. Ranger Arnold will discuss the units involved from both sides, including background of several officers and enlisted men who fought there.
Hikers will meet at Tour Stop #18 at 10:00 am. The hike will cover about two miles over moderate terrain. Please be sure to bring water and bug spray and wear appropriate footwear. Call the Shiloh Visitor Center at 731-689-5696 to sign up.
At the Corinth Battlefield we are asking kids to “Listen Up!" and become a Junior Ranger Sounds Explorer.
Join Ranger Laura Lee McKellips as we walk the Confederate Siege Lines to explore the sounds around us.
The program will start at 10:00 am at the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center before caravanning to the Confederate Siege Lines on Polk Street. The kids will be able to listen to the natural sounds around them as well as different sounds recorded in National Parks.
They will even have a chance to complete the Junior Ranger Sounds Explorer booklet. The walk will be over moderate terrain. Participants should wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather. Insect repellent, sunscreen, and water are recommended. Please call the Interpretive Center at 662-287-9273 to reserve your child’s spot.
