Consistent with direction from the United States Montana District Court, the Bureau of Land Management has released a draft supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) and potential amendment to the 2015 Miles City Field Office Approved Resource Management Plan (RMP) for a 90-day public comment period.

As required by the Court’s 2022 order, the draft supplemental EIS evaluates additional alternatives for federal coal leasing in the Miles City Field Office, as well as updated information and analysis regarding the health impacts, both climate and non-climate, from the production of fossil fuels from the RMP area.

The draft supplemental analysis identifies four alternatives for comment and further review, including no leasing and limited leasing alternatives. More detail is available at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2021155/510.

The BLM will hold one in-person public meeting on June 6, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Miles City Field Office, 111 Garryowen Road, Miles City, Mont. The BLM will also host one on-line public meeting on June 7, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with registration information found on the ePlanning project website.

Public comments must be received by August 3, 2023.
