On May 11, 2023, the International World Peace Rose Gardens in partnership with the Martin Luther King National Historical Park will host the 31st anniversary of the Martin Luther King, Jr. “I Have A Dream” Inspirational Messages of Peace awards ceremony at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park.

This annual event will feature an awards program recognizing the winning students of the 2023 Inspirational Messages of Peace contest. Sylvia Villalobos, co-creator, and president of the International World Peace Rose Gardens says, “this year, we worked with several schools primarily located within the Atlanta metropolitan area.” Villalobos continued, noting “we hope to continue nurturing out-of-state schools from Alabama, California and Washington D.C., as well as international schools from China, India and the territory of Palestine, who were all previous contest participants.”

The winning students’ awards program will begin at 12:15pm in the Heritage Sanctuary of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 407 Auburn Avenue, Northeast.  To conclude the programming, all are invited to participate in the grand toss of rose petals at the park’s “I Have A Dream” World Peace Rose Garden located in front of the park’s visitor center located at 450 Auburn Avenue, Northeast.

Park Superintendent Judy Forte notes “the annual rose garden event has evolved into one of the park’s most inspiring events, while the Inspirational Messages of Peace contest offers a unique educational opportunity for students to express their personal views about peace, justice and freedom while developing their skills in critical thinking, poetic writing and public speaking.”

The winning message plaques include both out-of-state and international winners from 2022 and will be on display for the next year for all visitors to enjoy and reflect upon.

This event is free of charge and open to the public.
