The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 30. It is reproduced in full below.

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, June 10, at 11 am, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a special 90-minute, approximate 1-mile, ranger-led walking tour exploring the events surrounding the experience of Sam Watkins, famous author of Company AYTCH. The program will begin at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, then caravan to the starting point.

Sam Watkins is the beloved author and prime example of the “common" Civil War soldier, but is that true? Sam’s record is somewhat problematic, but at other times it rings true. We hope to see you at this program as we follow in Sam’s footsteps and narrative during the Battle of Chickamauga.

For more information about programs at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706-866-9241, the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center at 423-821-7786, or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/chch.
