The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 31. It is reproduced in full below.

Where are you from? What was your pathway to the Natinonal Park Service (NPS)?

I’m from Beaufort, SC. I got into NPS through the Pathways program last summer at Glen Canyon while I was still attending Clemson University. I worked through my summer break, then went back to finish my degree before returning to Glen Canyon in February 2023.

What interested you in NPS?

I wanted to have a career that was interesting and involved the outdoors, so NPS seemed like the perfect option.

What do you do for NPS?

I work in Remit in the Fees department. So, I basically review the shift reports turned in by the Visiter Use Assistant’s and handle the camping money received from various sites.

What is your background? College? Study?

I have a bachelor’s in history with an emphasis in public history and an art minor.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?

I’ve found that the people I’ve met and made connections with are the most rewarding part of working for NPS. I’ve met the coolest people since I started work.

What are your hobbies?

I like to take my dog, Bluebell, with me to the lake or out hiking in my free time.

Do you remember the first park you visited? My family is from North and South Carolina, and I remember the Blue Ridge Parkway being one of the first NPS sites I visited.

What advice do you have for youth and young adults thinking about a career at NPS?

If you’re in school, or about to graduate, consider applying to Pathways positions. It’s a really good way to get a job with the Parks Service. I was able to become a permanent employee very quickly because of the Pathways program.
