OMAHA, Neb. -- Releases from Jamestown Dam and Pipestem Dam will increase in response to several recent thunderstorms.  Since May 1, Jamestown received 3.69 inches of rain, which is well above normal.  Similar rainfall amounts were seen upstream of the dams. 

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers increased releases from Pipestem Dam by 100 cfs (cubic feet per second) on May 15. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation will increase Jamestown releases by 100 cfs on May 16, and an additional 100 cfs on May 17. 

After these increases, Pipestem releases of 500 cfs, and Jamestown releases of 1,100 cfs will total 1,600 cfs.  USACE will continue to monitor runoff conditions and adjust flows as needed.. 

As of May 15, Pipestem Reservoir was at elevation 1472.4 feet, 30 feet into the exclusive flood control zone, and Jamestown Reservoir was at elevation 1443.2 feet, 12.2 feet into the exclusive flood control zone.  As of May 15, 62% of the flood control space in Pipestem remains vacant and available, and Jamestown has 64% of its flood control space available.
