Fort Shafter, Hawaii -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), managing restoration efforts at the Former Waikoloa Maneuver Area (WMA), South Kohala, Island of Hawaii, will provide a status update regarding ongoing environmental investigations and restoration activities at the next WMA Restoration Advisory Board meeting, or RAB.

The public is invited to attend in-person or via Webex. The twice-yearly RAB meetings are hosted by USACE and intended to involve the community in the restoration decision-making process for the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area.
“The RAB is an important tool to help expand public understanding about the Corp’s work and remediation process at the WMA,” said David Griffin, WMA Program Manager. “We encourage community to attend and stay engaged with us and with our state and federal partners, until this mission is complete.”

BACKGROUND: The Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites (DERP-FUDS) is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on behalf of the DoD. Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) are real property that were under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of Defense and owned by, leased by, or otherwise possessed by the United States and were transferred from Department of Defense control prior to October 17, 1986.
