Concord, MASS. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today that the public swimming area at Hop Brook Lake in Middlebury, Conn., has been reopened.

The beach and swimming area were closed on May 21 after water quality testing indicated that bacteria levels in the lake exceeded Connecticut State Standards following an increase in pool level, increased water turbidity because of heavy rainfall, and run-off received on May 20. The latest water quality tests have indicated that bacteria levels are currently at an acceptable level.

The Hop Brook Lake recreation area is open daily for swimming, picnicking, hiking and other recreational activities until Sept. 10, 2023.

For more information, call (203) 729-8840 or visit the Hop Brook Lake website at https://www.nae.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Hop-Brook-Lake/.
