GALVESTON, Texas --The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District issued a Notice of Intent on June 2, 2023, opening the scoping input period for the Matagorda Ship Channel Project Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS).

A drop-in open house information session will be held June 7 between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Bauer Exhibit Hall in Calhoun County located at 186 Henry Barber Way in Port Lavaca, Texas.

Brief overview presentations are currently scheduled for 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. USACE and Calhoun Port Authority staff will be on hand to answer questions. Information will be made available about the channel improvement project, USACE’s role in port navigation and this project, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the SEIS process.

Public input will help determine what is evaluated in this supplemental environmental review to the existing Final Environmental Impact Statement.

USACE is conducting this supplemental review due to new circumstances that may have bearing on the proposed action or its impacts.
