The Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum is in Calvert County, MD and explores the history of the Chesapeake Bay Railway. The museum is within sight distance of the Chesapeake Bay and walking distance of numerous shops, restaurants, and a resort. Visitors to the museum can learn about the history of the railroad and its impact on the local region. The station also provides information about a nearby rail trail that traces the original path the railway traveled.
The station building was finished in 1898 for the Chesapeake Bay Railway, a railroad which ran for 27 miles from Washington D.C. to the resort town of Chesapeake Beach. During its heyday, the railway was used by tens of thousands of people to access the Bay and the town’s many attractions and amusements. Today, the museum is the only remaining structure of the railway and was transformed into a museum in 1979 through the efforts of local volunteers and the Calvert County Historical Society.
