The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 12. It is reproduced in full below.

Yosemite Fire will be conducting pile burning operations along Southside Drive this week. This is a continuation of nearby work that successfully cleared 50 piles last week. The work is part of the Valley Forest Restoration project where small trees and dead and downed material is being removed to facilitate regular prescribed fire, encourage black oak regeneration, expand meadowlands, improve wildlife habitat, and enhance cultural landscapes.

Smoke will be seen in some parts of the Valley, and there may be occasional single lane closures on Southside Drive.

Air quality information can be found online at https://fire.airnow.gov/
