GULF BREEZE, Fla. -- Gulf Islands National Seashore has temporarily closed visitor access and facilities in the Fort Pickens Area for weather recovery operations beginning at 8:00 a.m. June 16.
Closed areas include Fort Pickens Road and Fort Pickens Campground. Camping reservations beginning today, June 16, will be canceled until further notice. The ferry service to Fort Pickens has also been postponed.
“Overnight, the park was impacted by severe weather, resulting in flooding and power outages throughout the Fort Pickens Area," said Superintendent Darrell Echols. “Our priority is to ensure the safest environment possible for park visitors and staff. The park will announce changes as appropriate."
The park staff will continue to assess conditions to reopen as soon as possible. For more information, please follow the park’s social media accounts and website.
