Patchogue, NY – AJCE Corp has been awarded the contract to begin on Tuesday, June 6th the removal of the separated shotcrete panels and brick rubble located on the northeast side of the lighthouse terrace.

After the removal project is completed the stabilization project can begin. Lee Construction, Inc has been awarded the stabilization portion of the contract to wrap the lower white day marker with a steel cable mesh system.

“We are excited work can begin to safely remove debris and stabilize this jewel within the National Park System and Long Island.” says Alexcy Romero, Superintendent of Fire Island National Seashore.

The tower will remain closed for the duration of both projects. During the removal of the panels and stabilization project, the terrace north of the Keeper’s Quarters building and adjacent boardwalks will remain closed.

The park also advises visitors to stay out of closed areas. Although the tower is temporarily closed, the Lens Building, Keepers Quarters and museum store are open and accessible to the public.
