North Point State Park is in Baltimore County, Maryland and expands for 1,310 acres along the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. Over half of the park boasts protected wetlands, known as the Black Marsh Natural Area, which hosts upper tidal marsh with shrubs, wetland grasses and unique flowers. The many natural areas of the parks host a variety of wildlife species, including muskrats, beavers, foxes, otters, osprey and more.
North Point has an extensive history of human use, with evidence dating back at least 9,000 years. The site played an important role during the War of 1812 with a skirmish occurring between American militia and British troops seeking to invade Baltimore. During the 20th century, the park was the site of the Bay Shore Amusement Park, a small park featuring gardens, a dance hall and even a bowling alley. Today, the park features fishing piers, picnicking areas, hiking trails, a water accessible area and more.
