Greenwell State Park is in St. Mary’s County, Maryland and stands along the Patuxent River. The 596-acre park was formed from two distinct properties: the Greenwell property and Bond property. In 1971, John Philip Greenwell, Jr. And his sister, Mary Wallace Greenwell, donated their 166-acre farm to be used as a public park. Subsequently, the State of Maryland purchased the neighboring 430-acre Bond property and combined the two properties into the current park.
The rural park provides ten miles of hiking, cycling and equestrian trails as well as access to the Patuxent for kayaking and fishing. The Greenwell Foundation assists in management of the park and provides inclusive and accessible recreational programs for people with disabilities.
