The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 28. It is reproduced in full below.

BAKER, Nev. - Great Basin National Park is proud to announce the 2023 Darwin Lambert artist-in-residence: Jacqueline Abend.

In her artist’s statement, Jacqueline says, “I am an artist and art educator born and based in New Jersey. I create abstracted, mixed media pieces in heavily saturated colors using pastel, oil pastel, ink, acrylic, and watercolor pencil. For years, my practice has involved stream of consciousness pieces, but I’ve recently shifted to works inspired by nature."

One alternate was selected, Constance Baltuck, of Juneau Alaska, who describes herself as a “plein air painter of landscapes, plants, and people in natural settings.

Many highly qualified artists applied for the 2023 AIR Program. The artists, working in many mediums, displayed professionalism, creativity, and a mix of traditional and modern art styles. The jury’s selections were based on artistic integrity, creativity, ability to reside in an isolated high desert environment, and how an artist would relate and interpret the park through their work.
