WASHINGTON—Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation Chairwoman Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) will hold a hearing titled “Using Cutting-Edge Technologies to Keep America Safe.” The subcommittee hearing will examine how the federal government is harnessing advances in artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies to enhance security. This hearing will also discuss the obstacles to the adoption and sustainment of these innovations by federal agencies, including barriers created by the federal procurement process. There will be a live demonstration of some of these technologies — including a robotic dog.

“All around us, technology is advancing with incredible velocity. Breakthroughs in science, medicine, and many other fields are becoming commonplace due to emerging technologies. Integration of high-tech advances in the security space create opportunities we must seize to address rising crime across the nation and at the border.  Our nation’s military personnel, border security officials, and law enforcement officers put themselves in danger to protect U.S. citizens. Cutting-edge technologies deployed appropriately can enhance mission achievement and reduce the risks faced by public servants. This hearing is an opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies into efforts to enhance security and keep Americans safe,” said Subcommittee Chairwoman Mace.
