At the request of Napa County, the Bureau of Reclamation is banning the use of charcoal and other ash-producing fuels at Lake Berryessa’s recreation areas, including recreation concession areas and campgrounds, starting June 26.

In a collective effort to improve public safety, this lake-wide fire ban will remain in effect until further notice. Reclamation will be informed by the Napa County Fire Marshall when the fire ban may be safely lifted and continues coordination efforts with Napa County and local fire agencies in the interim.

Cooking fires using charcoal briquettes and wood campfires create embers that can easily be blown into dry vegetation, igniting wildfires. During this temporary ban, only propane-fueled fire pits, stoves, and barbeque grills will be permitted at Lake Berryessa.

Park rangers or campground hosts, and posted signs, will inform visitors of the temporary ban upon entrance to recreation areas.
