On Sunday, July 16th, Fort Stanwix National Monument will host a free ranger-led bike hike to the Rome Cemetery. Those participating in the bike tour are invited to meet at the Willett Center at Fort Stanwix National Monument by 10:30 a.m. Due to terrain and distance, approximately 6 miles round trip, it is recommended for ages 10 and up.

“There is so much history connected to the park around Rome," said Ranger Dan Umstead, “A bike ride is a great way to see it all while taking advantage of the summer weather."

The tour will take a leisurely ride through the city of Rome with a stop at Rome Cemetery for a 30-minute cemetery talk about many historical figures buried there. Participants are encouraged to wear their helmet and bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Reservations are not required for this free event but are strongly encouraged. In case of inclement weather or bad air quality the bike hike will be rescheduled. You can call 315-338-7730 on the morning of for more details and updates.

The next event taking place at Fort Stanwix is “Unsung Hero Day" on Saturday, July 22. A full schedule of park events can be found on www.nps.gov/fost. All park events are free.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission to the park is free. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315) 338-7730.
