The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 6. It is reproduced in full below.

POINT REYES STATION, Calif. - The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Point Reyes Lodging Corporation to operate visitor services in Point Reyes National Seashore under a 10-year concession contract. The existing hostel lodging and other visitor services at Point Reyes Hostel will transition to the new concessioner on Oct. 17, 2023.

The operation of the Point Reyes Hostel concession contract will provide an important portion of the services visitors seek at the park and is important to providing a positive visitor experience. The new contract was awarded through a competitive selection process.

The NPS released the solicitation for the Point Reyes Hostel concession contract through a competitive bid process in January 2023. The contract was awarded to the highest scoring proposal and the NPS Regional Director made the final decision.

Point Reyes Lodging Corporation is operated by Grant Cunningham, who also operates under a concession contract for visitor services at Pinnacles National Park.

The current concession contractor, American Youth Hostels, Inc. (doing business as Hostelling International ), began the first hostel operations in the Seashore and has provided outstanding service at Point Reyes Hostel since 1972. The non-profit operator of hostels worldwide will continue to operate the hostel until the next contract begins in October 2023. The NPS plans to work with both concession contracts to ensure a smooth transition and no disruptions to the visiting public are expected.
