FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park’s late summer schedule will run from Aug. 13, 2023 to Oct. 21, 2023. Plan your visit and discover the stories of soldiers, civilians and enslaved freedom seekers who experienced four major battles and helped determine the fate of the nation during the Civil War.
Park grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Late summer hours for visitor centers, historic sites, and guided programs are as follows:
Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center
1013 Lafayette Boulevard, Fredericksburg, VA
Open daily, 9 am-5 pm
Plan your visit with a park ranger at the visitor center. Explore exhibits on Fredericksburg, the battle, and its aftermath. Shop in the park store and watch a 22-minute movie, shown every half hour.
Sunken Road Walking Tour: Join a guided tour of the one of the most iconic and recognized battlefield landmarks of the war. (Daily; 10 am & 2 pm; 45 minutes)
Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center
9001 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, VA
Open daily, 9 am-5 pm
Check out exhibits on the battles of Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. Shop in the park store and watch a 22-minute video, shown every half hour.
Battle Overview Talk: Discuss significant aspects of the Chancellorsville Campaign with park staff. (Saturday & Sunday; 10 am & 2 pm; 30 minutes; check with staff for available weekday programs)
Chatham Manor
120 Chatham Lane, Fredericksburg, VA
Open daily, 9 am-5 pm (closed 12 noon - 1 pm on weekdays)
Visit exhibits that tell the story of this slave plantation from the 1770s to present day, including its role as headquarters and hospital during the Civil War. Stroll through the 1920s formal gardens and enjoy a spectacular view of the city skyline and river. A 14-minute orientation movie is available upon request. Park staff are present to share the history of the house and grounds.
Ellwood Manor
36380 Constitution Highway, Orange, VA
Open Saturday & Sunday, 9 am-5 pm
Explore the Ellwood landscape, visit the 18th-century slave plantation manor house, check out exhibits on the site’s role as a hospital and headquarters, and visit the burial place of Stonewall Jackson’s amputated arm.
Opening of the Overland Campaign: Join us for this talk that investigates the Battle of the Wilderness and Grant’s 1864 Overland Campaign. (Saturday & Sunday; 10 am & 2 pm; 30 minutes)
The "Stonewall" Jackson Death Site will close for the season and there will be no staff at the Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield after Aug. 12, 2023. The grounds of these locations will remain open sunrise to sunset.
Self-guided audio driving tours for all four battlefields and audio walking tours of the Jackson Death Site and the Sunken Road at Fredericksburg are available for free at go.nps.gov/frsp-tours or via the official NPS App found on the Apple Store or Google Play.
