The Pyramid Area Fires are now contained following a strong initial attack and continued work by park firefighters and North Cascades Smokejumpers with water support via helicopter throughout the day on Friday. The Bouck, Colonial, and Snowfield cross-country zones are now open.
An additional fire was detected Saturday morning following Wednesday’s storm pattern. The Sourdough Fire is active in Ross Lake National Recreation Area within North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The Sourdough Fire is approximately 0.1-acres with smoldering and creeping fire behavior. There are no closures at this time associated with the Sourdough Fire.
The North Cascades Fire Crew is on the ground in steep terrain to directly engage on the Sourdough Fire. A helicopter is available for aerial delivered water to support firefighting efforts on the ground as needed.
Fire personnel continue to monitor the area for additional fire starts from recent and predicted storms throughout the area for the next few days.
Visitors should be aware of fire restrictions in areas of the park complex. Campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills, are banned in in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex - North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. This includes all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along State Route 20 as well as Hozomeen and the entire Stehekin Valley.
