Patchogue, NY - Fire Island National Seashore announces the next phase of the Lighthouse Tower Façade repair. On Wednesday, August 23rd, contractors will begin the stabilization portion to the lighthouse tower facade. Lee Construction, Inc was awarded the stabilization contract to wrap the lower white day marker with a steel cable mesh system.
“We are excited work can begin to stabilize the outer façade of this jewel within the National Park System and Long Island." says Scott McCormick, Acting Superintendent of Fire Island National Seashore.
The tower will remain closed for the duration of the project. During the stabilization project, the terrace north of the Keeper’s Quarters building and adjacent boardwalks will remain closed.
The park also advises visitors to stay out of closed areas. Although the tower is temporarily closed, the Lens Building, Keepers Quarters and museum store are open and accessible to the public.
