St. Croix, US Virgin Islands - The Bandstand is scheduled for repairs starting Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, and will remain closed through Sept. 15, 2023. The Bandstand is a historic structure that serves as an integral part of the cultural landscape and overall historic district of Christiansted National Historic Site. This historic structure is used for interpretive activities, cultural demonstrations, and community events. It is imperative to maintain this structure both from a visitor and employee safety aspect as well as the legislative mandate to preserve and interpret the cultural history of the area. Repairs include painting of the exterior and underside of the roof, replacement of worn-out banister and railing posts, and upgrade electrical outlets.This project is being completed in partnership with the Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) of the National Park Service located in St Croix. HPTC is dedicated to the safe preservation and maintenance of national park and partner facilities by demonstrating outstanding leadership, delivering quality preservation services, and providing preservation education.
