JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve will be closed as of 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 28 with the approach of Hurricane Idalia. The projected forecast and potential for flooding, extreme high tides, and unsafe road conditions will likely create hazards throughout the park. “Potential weather impacts associated with Hurricane Idalia are being taken seriously, for the safety of our visitors and employees." stated Superintendent Chris Hughes. The park will remain closed through the storm and in the aftermath until safety assessments determine an area is cleared to open. When storms pass the risk of flooded roads, and hazardous trees often remains. For the safety of visitors and staff do not return to park sites until they have officially reopened. The current status of park closures will be posted as an alert on the park’s website.
