The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 29. It is reproduced in full below.

Canaveral National Seashore will close the park and beaches within the boundary beginning Wednesday, August 30th, in preparation for hurricane Idalia. With the safety of employees and visitors being NPS’ top priority, this includes Apollo Beach, Playalinda Beach, and Seminole Rest. Please observe all closures and do not enter through closed gates, once the seashore is closed there will be limited emergency services available. The seashore will be assessed by an Incident Command Team before it is reopened to the public after the storm has passed. Notice of operation changes will be posted on Facebook, Instagram and park webpage, https://www.nps.gov/cana/index.htm.

Some national parks that may be impacted by Idalia are already closed or have reduced operations. Parks along the coast of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are implementing their severe weather plans and preparing for possible impacts this weekend.

Check out the NPS Severe Weather webpage, https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/news/severe-weather-response.htm.
