Walnut Grove, Calif - The Bureau of Reclamation will close the Delta Cross Channel Gates on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at about 10 a.m. The closure is required to meet salinity requirements in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The gates will remain closed until Friday, Sept. 8 at about 10 a.m.
The Delta Cross Channel Gates control the diversion channel near Walnut Grove, about 30 miles south of Sacramento. When the gates are open, fresh water is drawn from the Sacramento River into the interior of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta through Snodgrass Slough and the Mokelumne River. The open gates also allow boat traffic to pass.
Boaters are advised to check the status of the gates. The gates may open or close on short notice based on requirements. The closing and opening of the gates take about one hour.
