The National Park Service announces the winners of the 2023 Obed Wild and Scenic River photo contest. Photographers were invited to submit striking digital images highlighting the spectacular views, dark night skies, recreational opportunities, and diversity of life in the park. Entries to the contest were judged by members of the Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers.

The winners of each category for this year’s photo contest:

* Youth: “A Walk on Old Nemo Bridge" by Lily Touchet

* Recreation: “River and Rock Adventure" by Angel Touchet

* Dark Skies: “Milky Way at Nemo Bridge" by Kelli Thompson

* Flora and Fauna: “Fritillary on Butterfly Weed" by Peggy Yaeger

* Landscapes: “Dawn Rising at Nemo" by Jeff Parlow

Runners up in the contest included “Natural Arch" by Stanley Long, “Green Salamander and a Rhododendron Leaf" by Bryce Wade, and “Amanita Mushroom" by Nawras Baban.

Photographers are encouraged to grab their cameras and visit the Obed Wild and Scenic River. The park will be announcing its 2024 photo contest soon. For more information, please call (423) 346-6294.
