Three peregrine falcon chicks take flight at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

News Release: Three peregrine falcon chicks successfully took their first flights from the cliffs of Maryland Heights at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (NHP) this spring. This is the third consecutive, documented fledging of peregrine falcons since the 1950s from this historic breeding site. This is also the first time in over 70 years that each chick has survived to this milestone.


Continued above-average precipitation prompts additional increases from Yellowtail Dam into Bighorn River

News Release: FORT SMITH, Mont. - According to Natural Resources Conservation Service data, as of June 19, 2023, the southern Montana and northern Wyoming region received 5.29 inches of rain, which is 193% of the average total of 2.74 inches for the entire month of June. In response, releases out of Yellowtail Dam into the Bighorn River are scheduled to increase from the current release of 13,000 cubic feet per second to 15,000 cfs between June 20-22, 2023.

News Release: Leonard Helm was born around 1720 on a farm that straddles the present Virginia county lines of Fauquier and Prince William Counties to Thomas Helm and Margaret Lynaugh. Little is known of his early years except for that he was born into a large, wealthy, family. Since only the richest families could send children to school in England or one of the few universities in the colonies, Helm most likely would have been tutored if he received any formal education.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore visitors will experience travel delays along N.C. Highway 12, between Hatteras and Frisco, beginning around 11 a.m. today.
