Releases from Davis Dam temporarily reduced

News Release: Boulder City, Nev. - The Bureau of Reclamation announced it will temporarily reduce water releases from Davis Dam on Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 10 a.m. (MDT). Releases will be approximately 2,100 cubic feet per second. The low flow operations will allow the city of Laughlin and the Las Vegas Valley Water District to perform maintenance on the city’s water supply intake system.


BLM opens protest period for oil and gas lease sale in New Mexico, Oklahoma

News Release: SANTA FE, N.M. - The Bureau of Land Management New Mexico State Office today opened a 30-day public protest period to receive public input on eleven oil and gas parcels totaling 595.59 acres that may be included in an upcoming lease sale in New Mexico and Oklahoma. The protest period ends Sept. 13, 2023.

Steamtown National Historic Site receives generous donation to restore locomotive

News Release: Scranton, Pa. - A generous financial donation to Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) is helping fund the restoration of the Atlantic Coast Line #1901, a steam era diesel locomotive in the park's collection. News Release: On the morning of Monday, Aug. 14, recovery efforts were completed in the Flying Dutchman couloir for the body of a 21-year-old female from Severance, Colorado. Park rangers requested assistance from a Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control helicopter and helitack crew. Her body was flown to Upper Beaver Meadows and then transferred to Boulder County Coroner's Office.

Hiker falls from Teewinot resulting in fatality

News Release: MOOSE, WY - Park rangers responded before dawn on Friday, Aug. 11, to a report of a hiker who fell off the west side of Teewinot, part of the Teton Range, inside Grand Teton National Park. Rangers found Joy Cho of Simi Valley, California, had succumbed to significant injuries during the fall and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tractor trailer fire prevented by park rangers

News Release: DEATH VALLEY, Calif. - A tractor trailer’s brakes caught on fire-twice-while descending CA-190 eastbound from Towne Pass on August 10 in the evening. The truck was saved from a complete loss to fire by a report from an off-duty National Park Service (NPS) employee and the response by Death Valley National Park’s rangers with a fire engine.


Two Separate Incidents Occurred in Rocky Mountain National Park this Weekend

News Release: On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 12, a 21-year-old female from Severance, Colorado died after an approximate 300-foot fall. A 25-year-old male from San Angelo, Texas also fell approximately 300 feet and suffered critical injuries. The two individuals fell while descending in the Flying Dutchman couloir. This couloir is located inside Rocky Mountain National Park between Longs Peak and Mount Meeker.
