Interior Department Announces Updated Guidance for Mining Claims

News Release: WASHINGTON - The Department of the Interior today released a Solicitor’s Opinion (Opinion) to outline approaches that applicants may take to site waste rock and tailings facilities on federal lands under the General Mining Act of 1872 (Mining Law) to enhance permitting certainty and consistency for mining operators. The Department also announced completion of a Court-remanded analysis for the Thacker Pass mine approval in Nevada, consistent with the Opinion.


Fatality at Arches National Park

News Release: Moab, UT-On Monday May 15, 2023, National Park Service rangers responded to a report of CPR in progress at Devils Garden Campground in Arches National Park. Personnel from Grand County Sheriff’s Department and Grand County EMS also responded. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the 73-year-old male patient from Colorado was pronounced deceased at the scene.
