Access Increases for Memorial Day Holiday at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

News Release: Due to a high snowpack, a higher spring runoff continues to increase Lake Powell water levels. The lake has been rising over one foot per day. As of May 24, Lake Powell’s elevation is 3550.7 feet (above sea level). Tonto National Monument Reduces Hours to Hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling

News Release: In order to mitigate heat-related incidents and promote visitor safety, Tonto National Monument will enter into annual summer hours to hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling. Starting June 1, 2023 and ending Aug. 31, 2023 hiking hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon). Visitors who wish to hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling need to begin their hike before 12:00 p.m.

Thomas J. “Stonewall" Jackson was pleased with his May 23, 1862, victory at Front Royal, he was faced with a difficult decision the next day. “In the event of Banks leaving Strasburg he might escape toward the Potomac," he wrote later, “or if we moved directly to Winchester, he might move via Front Royal toward Washington City." News Release: SANTA FE, N.M. - Today, the Bureau of Land Management New Mexico State Office conducted a lease sale offering 45 parcels totaling 10,123 acres within Cheyenne County, Kansas, and Eddy, Lea, and Chaves counties, New Mexico, on public lands managed by the Roswell Field Office, Carlsbad Field Office and Oklahoma Field Office. In total, 37 parcels totaling 8,596.25 acres sold for a total of $78,844,369.

Rock Creek Park reminds visitors to keep pets on a leash

News Release: WASHINGTON- On Sunday, May 14, an off-leash dog attacked a wild beaver in Rock Creek Park near Boulder Bridge. Due to the severity of its injuries, the beaver was euthanized. The National Park Service (NPS) reminds visitors that dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet in Rock Creek Park and other local national parks at all times-it's the law.

All-female litter of mountain lion kittens discovered in Simi Hills

News Release: THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.- According to National Park Service (NPS) biologists, mountain lion P-77 recently gave birth to three female kittens in the Simi Hills, a small area of habitat between the larger Santa Monica and Santa Susana Mountain ranges.
