Prescribed fire planned for public lands on the Arizona Strip

News Release: ST. GEORGE, Utah-To decrease the risk of future wildfires and protect cultural and natural resources, the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Arizona Strip District anticipates initiating prescribed fire treatments this fall from August through November, as weather and fuel moisture conditions allow.

Hurricane Fire holds at 3 acres following rainy and cloudy day

News Release: Port Angeles, Wash. - The Hurricane Fire did not grow following a rainy and cloudy day at Hurricane Ridge; fire suppression efforts made progress by establishing containment lines, laying a hose to the fire, and working to prevent rolling debris from causing additional fire spread. Aerial resources were not used today due to weather and poor visibility but are scheduled to be used tomorrow if weather allows.


Parks Utilizing Confine and Contain Suppression Strategy for Redwood Fire in Sequoia National Park Wilderness

News Release: SEQUOIA AND KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS, Calif. Aug. 30, 2023 - Fire management staff and park leadership have elected to utilize a confine and contain strategy to manage the Redwood Fire, located in the wilderness of Sequoia National Park, near Redwood Meadow. The lightning-ignited fire is currently 75 acres in size and burning at low intensity up a steep, forested slope. It currently poses no threats to life or property.


Bureau of Land Management Closes Public Lands Near Chilcoot Fire

News Release: Roseburg, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management is closing public lands within the vicinity of the Chilcoot Fire, located near the Steamboat Creek and Canton Creek areas. This emergency closure order is for the safety of the public and firefighter personnel.


BLM schedules wild horse adoption event with Fort Worth Mustang Show

News Release: FORT WORTH, TEXAS - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold a Wild Horse and Burro Adoption event in coordination with the Fort Worth Mustang Show in Ft. Worth, Texas, Sept. 9-10. The two-day event at the Will Rogers Memorial Center will feature dozens of outstanding animals, both trained and untrained. The event will take place from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, and from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Sept. 9.


Tourism to Shenandoah National Park contributes $145 million to local economy

News Release: Luray, VA - A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 1.4 million visitors to Shenandoah National Park in 2022 spent $104 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 1,240 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $145 million.

Area youth compete in Wild Horse Youth Challenge at Kansas State Fair

The event will feature 28 youth, ages ten to 18-years-old, who began gentling and training a yearling wild horse in May. At the fair, the youth will compete in three in-hand events, a showmanship class, a trail class around obstacles and a freestyle class.
