News Release: Machicomoco State Park is located on the York River in Gloucester County, Virginia. In the Virginia Algonquian language, Machicomoco means "a special meeting place." The park is on land associated with the Powhatan alliance of Tribes, with the important town of Werowocomoco located about 10 miles upstream. Machicomoco was the first state park dedicated to Virginia's Indigenous peoples.

Bandelier National Monument to Increase Overnight Camping Fees and Offer Online Reservations

News Release: LOS ALAMOS, N.M. - Bandelier National Monument will implement increased overnight camping fees at Juniper Campground and Ponderosa Group Campground beginning Oct. 1, 2023. Growing Up in Richland

News Release: Before 1943 the population of Richland, Washington was a mere 250 people. By the end of 1945, it had exploded to 15,000 as the DuPont Company and the Manhattan Project took over the town. DuPont permitted only permanent white-collar Hanford employees to reside in its new, planned, community, making Richland essentially a segregated city. But to the children of Hanford workers, Richland was a wonderful place to grow up, providing everything a child could ask for.

Using fire as a restoration tool at Sleeping Bear Dunes

News Release: In late May 2023, fire staff from the Great Lakes Fire Management Zone based at Indiana Dunes National Park, as well as firefighters from Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Michigan DNR, and the National Park Service Black Hills Wildland Fire Module came together at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to conduct the Good Harbor Prescribed Fires.


Crosscut Fire in El Malpais National Monument Reduces Hazardous Fuels

News Release: Current Situation: The Crosscut Fire started on July 27 within El Malpais National Monument. The lightning-caused fire is burning in a remote western area of the monument and is not currently threatening any infrastructure or private property.
