Twin Firs Fire Burning in Mount Rainier National Park

News Release: A half-acre fire is burning in Mount Rainier National Park, Superintendent Greg Dudgeon announced this morning. The Twin Firs Fire was started by a lightning strike on Friday morning, Aug. 25, and is currently burning in old growth forest about 1200 feet north of the park’s Nisqually Road between Kautz Creek and the Twin Firs Trail.

Mount Fremont Fire Lookout

News Release: Built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Mount Fremont Fire Lookout is a historic structure located within the Mount Rainer National Historic Landmark District. One of four lookouts remaining in the park, it helped protect the park and surrounding national forests from fire. Located at 7,181 feet in elevation, it is the highest fire lookout in the park.
