National Park Service awards more than $3.4 million in grants to preserve and interpret World War II Japanese American confinement sites
News Release: WASHINGTON - The National Park Service today announced $3,408,083 in Japanese American Confinement Sites grants. These funds will support 14 preservation, restoration, and education projects that help tell the story of the more than 120,000 Japanese Americans, two-thirds of whom were U.S. citizens, incarcerated by the U.S. government following the bombing of Pearl Harbor and President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066 on Feb. 19, 1942.

President’s Investing in America agenda to invest nearly $27 million in restoration work in Montana
News Release: As part of the President’s Investing in America agenda, the Bureau of Land Management will invest $26.9 million from the Inflation Reduction Act for the protection and conservation of important wildlife habitats, watersheds and recreational opportunities on public lands in Montana. This funding will be focused in three landscape areas called the Missoula-Blackfoot, Hi-Line Sagebrush Anchor, and the Missouri Headwaters Restoration Landscapes.

The Mystery of Object FOST 8998
News Release: Sitting in a storage container in the museum collection is object “FOST 8998." This iron object was rediscovered in the Fort Stanwix National Monument collections during a 2023 inventory. When originally cataloged in the 1970s, it was labeled as a nail found in the remains of the 18th Century fort. But after a bit of research, this actually appears to be modified shot or bar shot for use in a musket.
